James Sherman - Founder & President

Background

Jim Sherman, founder of ShermansTravel.com and, before that, WestEnd New Media Inc., served as the acting general manager/full-time consultant to Martha Stewart Living where he was the chief strategist, architect, and project leader in launching Martha's Internet business. He managed the essential tasks required to build a profitable Internet business including the new venture's strategy, organization, financials, site development, content plan, operations, e-commerce, and business development efforts, bringing it into profitability in its third month of operation.

Jim has advised many companies, particularly large consumer media brands, with their business and Internet strategies, business models, short- and long-term development plans, marketing/business development needs, financial and organizational implications, and all the complexities of execution. Prior, he worked in publishing with Time Inc. (marketing manager), Pearson (head of corporate development), and Troll Books (GM/VP, Internet). He is also a former consultant with Bain & Company.

Education

- Stanford University, B.A., M.A.
- Harvard Business School, M.B.A

Personal

Outside of work, Jim enjoys the theater, running, and of course travel. He can also do a mean rendition of Scott Joplin jazz on the piano! Of course, on the domestic front, he loves to throw parties and can often be seen with a robust "greyhound" (vodka and grapefruit) in hand.
